Elderly woman fights back during robbery

An elderly woman fought back criminals in Honeydew.

An 81-year-old woman was treated for minor injuries after she managed to fight off two men who attempted to strangle her during a business robbery in Honeydew on 1 August.

According to Drift Reaction, a security company that assisted with the arrest of one of the suspects, the elderly woman was in the second-hand shop when her daughter, the owner, quickly ran out to get lunch.

Two men entered the shop and one called her to the back. He pushed her to the ground and started strangling her.

The elderly woman fought back by kicking him and trying to scream. The other attacker then grabbed a laptop and the two ran off.

A customer heard the commotion and saw the men running off. The workers gave chase and a security officer driving past saw them. He assisted in the arrest of the suspect carrying the laptop but the other one got away.

Police were at the scene and took the suspect into custody.

The elderly woman who had suffered a mild stroke two weeks ago underwent a medical checkup and fortunately it was found that she had no major injuries.
