With Mandela Day around the corner, companies and individuals are all busy preparing to give 67 minutes of their time, and it is no different for Curves Strubens Valley.

The owner and management of the gym have identified two projects that will be benefiting, but they need the community’s help.

The first project they will be undertaking is the New Harvest Christian Fellowship’s Soup Kitchen. “We will be giving out sandwiches and soup on the day, and would like to urge our ever-supportive members, as well as members of the community, to help us with donations of bread, margarine and packets of soup powder. We are aiming to hand out at least 67 sandwiches and cups of soup,” said Natanie Hislop, the gym manager.

The second project is a three-week challenge in aid of the Baby Moses Baby Sanctuary in Helderkruin. “We will be starting on 16 July, and the last day will be 31 July. The owner of the gym, Nicky Seger, will be cycling one hour for every 10kgs of non-perishables received from the community. The first session will be from 5.30am to 10am and the second session from 2pm to 7pm. Every female member of the community who contributes to this cause, will also receive a seven day trial for herself and a friend,” said Natanie.

The items required for the Baby Moses project are:

• Monday – Full cream milk or milk powder

• Tuesday – Cereals, Pro-Nutro and Morvite only

• Wednesday – Peanut butter and jams

• Thursday – Bleach and Sunlight liquid

• Friday – Washing powder, fabric softener and toilet paper

• Saturday – Five rand coins for tuck-shop money
