Over the past months, tall grass on vacant land has been a serious concern for the residents of Borniet Avenue in Wilro Park.

Retired policeman Fred Peach, who has been living in the area for more than 10 years, said, “The grass stands sky high and the trees are overgrown, obstructing the view of motorists travelling on the road”.

The overgrown veld is also a safety hazard as thugs can easily hide there and use it as an escape route. He said residents are living in fear.

The Record contacted Joburg City Parks and Zoo spokesperson, Jenny Moodley, who said the matter will be investigated. She promised to give feedback soon.

Residents are urged to report grass in open spaces, parks and cemeteries that needs cutting, trees that need pruning and fallen trees or branches that need to be removed to Joburg City Parks and Zoo on 0860 562 874.
