Ninety-one new firefighters will soon be deployed to various fire stations throughout the City of Johannesburg.

In a recent media release, City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi, stated that the Acting Executive Head of the service, Mhlengi Makhubalo, together with the MMC for Public Safety, councillor Micheal Sun are to deploy the new firefighters at the beginning of June.

“It’s part of the promise the City made earlier this year to increase the number of firefighters in order to render more effective professional emergency services at all times as required by our foremost mandate of saving the lives and properties of all the residents of the City of Johannesburg,” said Mulaudzi.

According to Mulaudzi, the group has concluded a three-month intensive induction training programme, which included programmes such as Hot Fire Drills, Primary and Secondary Search and Rescue, High Rise Building Training, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Training, Motor Vehicle Accident Extrication at the Rietfontein Fire and Rescue Training Academy and are now ready to serve all the residents of the City of Johannesburg.

Sun congratulated the cadets on their completion of the induction programme, warned them of the problems they could face on the job, and encouraged them to always do their best when called to serve the residents of the City of Johannesburg.

“We hope that this new group of firefighters will contribute immensely to the safety of all the residents of the City of Johannesburg” Mulaudzi concluded.
