Making local more lekker

The cast of Five Fingers for Marseilles: Jerry Mofokeng, Hamilton Dhlamini, Mduduzi Mabaso and in front is Zethu Dlomo. Next to Jerry is Nitesh Matai, managing executive from NuMetro.

Westgate Shopping Centre’s shoppers were in awe and completely starstruck when they attended the NuMetro launch on 12 April with the cast members of the locally produced Oscar winning Five Fingers for Marseilles film.

Yvette McCormick, Kedibone Radebe, Gail Mashiane, Nozipho Kumalo, Colleen Lovell and Charlotte Archer.

According to the managing executive of Nu Metro Nitesh Matai, 30 million people in South Africa are underserved when it comes to watching films in professional movie theatres. “We created content that they want to watch. Local production companies have upped their game when it comes to homegrown movies,” Nitesh said.

The big news for the evening was, however, Nitesh announced that they have partnered with Mzanzi Magic to deliver more local content to the market. “We believe that this partnership will ensure a positive response from the targeted community.

“Westgate has seen a shift in demographics and to support this change, Nu Metro will focus on screening local content and that of other African countries and African American movies through its partnership with Mzanzi. We have also introduced a loyalty programme to make visiting the cinema even more affordable and accessible.”

He added that Nu Metro is focusing on expanding to other regions as well. The big news for the evening, however, was when Nitesh announced that they have partnered and sealed it with Mzanzi Magic. “We believe that this partnership will ensure a positive response from the community,” he said.
