Proof of insider scam at Licensing Station?

receipt and temporary licence

The Record has obtained the name of an employee who is most likely to be involved in an elaborate scam running from within the Florida Licensing Station.

A resident was reeled into the trap after his frustration with queuing the whole day to book a date for his truck driver licence. He eventually gave up, but on his way out he was approached by one of the loiterers outside who offered to queue for him (something that cannot be done in the first place) at a cost of R50 a day. Ignorant of the fact that this was not possible and just relieved that he was spared having to repeat the ordeal, he agreed. About two weeks, later the man contacted him and said he must come to the station.

At the station, the man said he wanted to talk to the client, but not at the station since there were cameras. So the two men walked across to Florida Lake. To the resident’s surprise, the man did not have a date but produced a legitimate temporary licence as well as the receipt for it and wanted R3 500 for it. The resident decided to go along and paid the money. The swindler then took out a ink pad and had the man thumb-print the temporary licence.

A few weeks later, he received a phone call saying he must come to the station to collect his card, but must bring his temporary licence and the receipt with him. Another man met him this time, but wanted more money before he was prepared to go inside and collect the card. When the resident refused to pay anything more, the swindler said he’d have to go back inside and discuss the matter with his contact. The swindler never returned and his cellphone remains switched off.

The victim said he believes they asked him to bring the receipt and temporary licence so they could destroy it and then delete it from the system so there would be no evidence. However, the victim was clever enough to scan the two documents, which clearly show who issued them.
