Hijackers roll courier van

At about 11am today (5 December) a GP Security reaction officer called in the hijacking of courier van in Maraisburg and said he was in hot pursuit.

Security companies Apcan and Dowry also picked up the call and joined in the chase, during which shots were fired. However, on Christiaan de Wet Road the hijackers lost control of the van, with the courier company driver still in it, and it rolled.

The two men linked to the crime then tried to flee by jumping walls, but a Dowry Security High Risk Unit reaction officer arrested one of them in a field while an Apcan Security reaction officer arrested the other one.

One firearm was recovered.

Whether or not anyone was injured when the van rolled is not known at this stage.
