Turn your habits around this spring

Environmental activists James Dryja, Steve Spottiswoode, Celeste van Rensburg and Gill Stewart write:

When confronted, we are told “I’m creating employment”, but if the Metro Council’s budget could actually squeeze in the costs to have Pikitup follow behind us picking up our dirty litter, would it not be better to dispose our rubbish in bins (irrespective of how far it has to be carried), and then use that money more productively, for example in employing more nurses and doctors to extend clinic facilities?

It’s now spring, so let us make a new start! Turn our habits around, show our youth the right way, make it very uncool to litter rubbish where we live, and when we see someone doing so from a car or on the street, point out politely that it’s not the done thing!”
