Machiel Grobler and Riehan Botha will be jetting off to America next month. The Ruiter Wrestling Club duo will be part of a South African team that will participate in training camps and competitions against a local team in the state of Oregon. The two wrestlers earned spots in the team when they won their divisions in the national trials hosted in Secunda earlier this year. It is the first time the two wrestlers will be travelling to the United States and they are excited to learn and gain new experiences.

“I’ve trained hard, wrestled with faith and trusted in the Lord by making Him a part of wrestling. I am eager to experience wrestling in Oregon and learn new techniques.

My goal is to do well so that I can excel at the national trials and have a chance to compete at the African Championships in October,” said Machiel.

His sentiments were echoed by Riehan, who added that he is also stressed yet excited as this will be his very first time wrestling overseas.

“My main goal is to also qualify for the African Championships so I want to absorb all the experiences and techniques which will be of significant assistance to me. To get where I am took hard work, commitment and dedication. Every morning I wake up to run four kilometres or more and this has certainly helped me.”
