Marthinus Pelser, the 22-year-old who stands accused of having murdered his six-month-old baby, appeared in the Roodepoort Regional Court again this morning (11 July).

For the umpteenth time the case had to be postponed, this time due to his advocate being ill. It is believed the trial date will also be moved. The trial was supposed to start on 11 September but Pelser requested legal aid from the state so time after the trial date was set. This means that the new defence team will need more time to familiarise themselves with the case and prepare a defence.

Pelser did not look his usual confident self this morning. He showed no emotion and appeared pale.

The case will resume on Thursday 13 July when, according to Magistrate Delize Smith, a trial date will be announced.
