Another one done and dusted

Roelien Vorster. Editor: Roodepoort Record

Last week the Record went on another ghost-hunting expedition with a psychic medium, this time at the Victorian Real Estate building owned by Dave Dewes.

Some interesting facts emerged during the evening, most of which were verified by Dave. He also bust a few myths relating to the tunnels running underneath the house. Despite the myths, the psychic and I went down into the tunnels. It was so creepy, with an eerie atmosphere.

Apparently it is the second oldest building in Roodepoort, with the old jail, which we visited on our previous expedition being the oldest, unbeknownst to me.

The full article should be on our website later this week. We also took some videos and although I haven’t taken a look to see if anything can be seen on-screen, I know there was definitely a presence, an energy, there, especially in the tunnels. Dave and his secretary confirmed that they hear footsteps going up and down the stairs, even during the day.

We have had a few requests from members of the community, asking whether they can join us on one of our ghost hunts. I think it’s a good idea, but I want to hear from you. Would you like to join in at a minimal fee? The money can be donated to a charity of your choice.

I am hoping to organise a midnight visit to a cemetery somewhere in Roodepoort. Some people believe that ghosts like having ghost parties between the tombstones, I want to know if it is true. I don’t think so though, since I believe that lost souls would rather hang around where they died and not in a cemetery. The visit will obviously be in summer, as I don’t like winter nights – and hopefully it will not rain.

If you are interested in joining us, please send an email to [email protected], alternatively, leave a comment on our Facebook page.

Until next week, take care of one another.
