Due to a series of misunderstandings and miscommunication, great unhappiness and inconvenience were recently created for the family of an elderly man who was stabbed on Naboom Street.

The family would like to put the following categorically on record:

• Two suspects, one armed with a knife, attacked the victim without provocation.

• During the attack the victim was stabbed and badly beaten.

• The victim was fighting for his life and during the struggle attempted to alert the neighbours. One of the attackers attempted to gag him and in the process one of the attackers was bitten on his hand.

• The struggle alerted the neighbours. As the neighbours arrived the attackers fled.

• In the process personal belongings were taken, including a mobile phone. It can be assumed that the attackers intended to hijack the vehicle.

• The security companies (including DMS security) and CPF were responsible for the arrest of the suspects. The family highly appreciates the actions of all who were involved in apprehending the suspect and who provided support.

• The stolen mobile phone and knife were found in the suspects’ possession and taken as evidence.

• The original information was received from a third party and not validated with the family, eyewitnesses and or the police.

• The family is grateful for the actions of the Roodekrans CPF and associated security firms.

• The family is grateful for the medical support from the ambulance services, Netcare Krugersdorp Private Hospital emergency unit and ICU personnel.

The Record apologises for the unintended inconvenience caused.
