JMPD member dies in crash

A Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) trainee was declared dead on scene after he was involved in a motorcycle accident.

The incident occurred on the N1 North before the N17 and Maraisburg Road onramp.

The motorcyclists allegedly drove into the back of a bakkie and sustained fatal injuries.

ER24 and other medical services responded to the scene and could do nothing more to save the patient.

The officer was the only one injured on scene and he succumbed to his injuries.

JMPD Superintendent Wayne Minnaar confirmed the accident.

“It is very sad that a young officer died while in training and waiting to serve his community with pride,” he said.

Officials were on the scene investigating the cause of the accident.
