Community ransack Somalian supermarket

Community members of Davidsonville ransacked a Somalian supermarket last night when a minor altercation turned into a free-for-all.

It is uncertain what exactly led to the incident as there are contradictory versions of the event. Some community members say conflict between the community and the Somalians has been brewing for a while and that the Somalians “treat them differently to what South Africans are used to”.

Others says police came late in the afternoon to confiscate cool drinks of suspicious origin from the supermarket. As soon as the police left some residents got into a physical altercation with the shop owner. Soon it got out of hand and the store was looted. Almost all the groceries were taken as well as electrical appliances, which included a plasma-screen television.

When the police came they had to fire warning shots to disperse the crowd who came peeling out of the shop carrying groceries.

“It looked like Checkers at the end of the month,” remarked one resident.
