Looking for hit-and-run suspect

A young man sustained head and spine injuries when a vehicle crashed into his and then sped off.

Neo Phambuka, 23, was travelling on Ontdekkers Road towards Krugersdorp at around midnight on Saturday when the incident took place. He said it was raining and he was driving in the left lane in his Renault Clio close to the Mouton Street intersection when he saw in his rear-view mirror a vehicle approaching at a high speed. It crashed into the right rear end of his vehicle, causing the Clio to spin out of control and hit the pavement. When he came to his senses the other vehicle, a new-model dark navy-blue Mercedes-Benz, already had left the scene.

Phambuka phoned the police but they failed to come to the scene. He could salvage some of the other vehicle’s body parts left at the scene. His vehicle unfortunately is a write-off. Metro Police advised Phambuka to contact Mercedes-Benz and asks them to trace the serial numbers on the pieces of wreckage to the dealership where the vehicle was purchased.

Phambuka asks that anyone who might have witnessed the accident or who spots a damaged dark navy-blue Mercedes-Benz to contact him on 073 722 9853.
