Metro Police shot an alleged hijacker on Monday, 17 April after a vehicle was hijacked in Meadowlands.

The incident took place at about 9.40pm. The hijacked vehicle had a tracking device and Metro Police were able to follow the vehicle to Hull Street in Florida where the hijacker had parked in front of a block of flats. After a while a second vehicle pulled up next to the hijacked vehicle and its driver went into the block of flats. When he came out, he went to the hijacked vehicle and had a conversation with the driver through the window. The driver of the hijacked vehicle then saw the police and drew his firearm. A shootout ensued and the hijacker was critically wounded.

The second suspect was arrested and detained at the Roodepoort Police Station.
