Beware of this sympathy trickstress

Although most decent folks want to help those less fortunate, no one likes to be duped.

A local resident, who wishes to stay anonymous, wants to make other residents aware of a woman who has been hanging around Hillfox Centre for at least the past year, always using the same story to solicit money from the unsuspecting public.

He said the woman has stopped him in the Hillfox car park at least three times in the past year – once at Trophy Warehouse, once at Clothing City and recently in front of the old Midas store.

The woman, who is between 40 and 45 and is accompanied by a girl of around 12, drives a metallic Blue Mazda Midge hatchback. They usually either pull right up to your vehicle or approach you as you are about to get into your vehicle.

“The lady then puts on a very practised, sweet smile and asks you for petrol money as her fuel gauge is on the empty mark and

she needs to get home. When I told her that she had asked me the same thing twice recently, she merely looked away. The child said nothing but slouched lower in the chair as you question the adult.

“The smile and the sales pitch she gives are word for word the same every time,” he said.
